Awesome Rawsome Applesauce ~ a Raw and Vegan Recipe for Kids!
I don’t know how it happened, but here we are. It’s almost fall. The kids are back in school and the days are noticeably shorter. This summer just flew by for me. How about you?
So, in keeping with the season, I have a quick and super easy raw applesauce recipe that’s perfect for kids and uses just four ingredients. It also travels well in school lunches.
Many of the apple crops here in Michigan were damaged by the early spring and the harvest, usually around 25 million bushels, will be just 3 million bushels this year. It’s the same elsewhere in the country, so apple prices are expected to go up this year.
When buying apples, look for plump, unblemished fruits that are firm and heavy,
and avoid fruits that are bruised or otherwise damaged. Store these
seasonal treasures in a cool place or in the refrigerator for up to one
month.
- 6 apples, peeled, cored and chopped ($5.00)
- 8 dates (soaked if necessary) ($.80)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice ($.20)
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
In a food processor fitted with an “S” blade, process all ingredients until mostly smooth and saucy. Let it go a little longer if you like smoother applesauce, and less if you’re in the mood for chunky. That’s it. Any leftovers will keep in the refrigerator for up to three days.

It may be nearly fall, but there’s still a bit of summer left and I’m enjoying the heck of it. Though it’s winding down, the garden is still producing like gangbusters. As proof, check out this uneaten half of the thirty pound watermelon I picked today!
Love this. I make something like this all the time.

Wow this is amazing Lisa – totally passing this along to my sister so she can make it for my 1 yr old niece – thanks
I just wanted to tell you that the flowers in this shot are so beautiful.
Love this, going to make in the morning. ONly thing I don't like about this site is
the slightly bouncing ads to your right. I know it's to help pay for the site, but it is irritating…no reflection on the fantastic chef.
Hi Gino … yes, the ads do help pay for the site. The bouncing one seems to have been removed. And thank you 🙂
I simply desired to let you know how the blossoms with this chance tend to be therefore stunning.
