Caramel Apple Dip ~ a Raw and Vegan Recipe for Fall
serves 4 ~ $.71 per serving

ingredients
- 12 dates, soaked ($1.25)
- 2 tablespoons almond cream ($.80)
- 2 tablespoons almond butter ($.80)
- pinch salt
- apples
This is a super simple and low {or lowish} fat recipe for a sweet and creamy caramel dipping sauce. It goes perfectly with apples, but would be nice with bananas, too, or drizzled over ice cream.
Just blend all ingredients together in a bullet type blender (we used a canning jar attached to the blade assembly of the blender) and use as a dip or spread on apple slices.
Almond cream is made with a 2:1 ratio of water to almonds. I used a half cup water and a quarter cup almonds and then strained it through a nut milk bag.
Caramel apple dip is good anytime. We liked it as a Halloween treat! Recipe video below.
It looks great!
Thanks!
I am so glad you shared this. I really miss carmel apples but of course would never go back to eating them! So this is perfect for our family–we LOVE apples and dipping them in yummy raw stuff. Thanks.
Peace and Raw Health,
Elizabeth
I miss them, too. This is a great substitution … even better than the original. You can make it thicker and thinner, too, by adjusting how much almond milk you add.
I love the video! Recipe looks great, too!
Thanks Shell, they had fun 🙂
Hayden and I loved this video. I always liked that song, and Hayden is still dancing to it. She wants to make caramel apple dip now, but unfortunately, I am out of dates. I guess we need to get to the store, asap.
Aww, Hayden's a doll!
How long does the dip last in the fridge please
Hi Stella, this dip lasts about 3 days in the refrigerator. It also thickens up when it's chilled.
Can't wait to try this!
what is almond cream?
Oops, I've added that info, Anita!
Thanks Lisa – I figured it was something you had made! 🙂
They are just so sweet. Love your kids and their excitement for raw vegan eating. Way to go. I will have to try this recipe based on their excitement. Thanks for sharing
Thanks! They really do get excited about raw foods, too 🙂 The caramel apple dip was a favorite.
Wow, this looks like a lovely little snack. How can something like a date be so sweet, yummy and natural all at the same time.
Nice work
Hi Tim, dates are awesome 🙂
How long do you soak the dates? And could I soak them in almond milk instead of almond cream, and just eliminate the 2 T of almond cream? Thanks for any insight you can provide!
Sue
Argh–I meant, "could I soak them in almond milk instead of WATER, and just eliminate the 2 T of almond cream?"
Sorry!
Update: I decided to experiment and make a 1/2 recipe. I pitted and quartered 6 medjool dates and soaked them in about 1/4 cup of almond milk. Not enough to cover them entirely, but enough so they could all soak up some milk. I left them soak overnight in the fridge, but they were actually ready to process after about 4 hours (the milk got very syrupy). Not having any almond butter, I ground 3 T of walnuts in my mini-Cuisinart, then added the milk/dates, a pinch of salt, and a few drops of vanilla extract.
And….DELICIOUS success! Oh my, the dip is *divine*. Mine was not as smooth as yours because of the nuts, but it matters not. I now have a yummy, healthy treat when when I am longing for "just a little something sweet" in the evening. Thank you so much for such a wonderful, versatile recipe!
Sue
Hi Sue, glad it worked out for you! That sounds like a great variation to the recipe, too 🙂
